Love Local Day 2022: The UK's Top 20 Most Loved Local Businesses Revealed

Record nominations have been received for Love Local Day from over 200 towns and cities across the UK, making it the biggest #LoveLocalDay campaign yet! 

Thanks to all those people who took the time to make some beautiful comments about their most loved local businesses.

We can now reveal the Top 20 Most Loved Local businesses are:

The English Rose Tea Rooms in Barnsley – one typical nomination reads “Beautiful setting, very clean and lovely atmosphere. Adrian and his team always give excellent service nothing is too much trouble. The food is absolutely beautiful and fresh. Been to lots of good tea rooms but English Rose is the best by far”

The Yarn Ball in Barnstaple – one of the nominations which was widely celebrated in the nominations for being a hive of activity “Lovely arranged shop with anything a yarnaholic could need. The nicest people running the establishment.”

Frankie Doodle Children’s Boutique in Basildon – the owner was praised for the market stall and her personal story about creating the business “Great value for money and fabulous quality, also Sherie is so helpful! The story of how the business started is incredible too!!”

Serenity Beauty in Bolsover – a place of happiness, kindness and cheer came through strongly in the nominations “Amazing bunch of ladies and they have pulled together through covid and helped each other out the other side.  Pre Covid it was still a fairly new business but they have managed to build up a loyal client base and that is a credit to each and every one of them.  They deserve some upbeat feel-good news.”

The Perfume Laboratory in Bridgnorth – one happy customer nominates saying “Cruelty free candles and perfumes. Small family run business. Products are hand made by the owners. Shop is absolutely amazing and unique , products are 100% vegan and natural … staff is so professional and friendly , they know what they are selling and they give loads of great advice if you not sure what you need”

Present Surprise in Chichester – nominations praised the personal service they received when selecting meaningful gifts  “They have such a fantastic selection of gift ideas and cards. Even if you don’t know what you’re looking for you can always find something. The staff are amazing, helpful and friendly.”

The Secret Wardrobe in Cleethorpes – staff honesty and friendliness was at the fore of many of their nominations “Staff super friendly, professional and helpful, kept my spirits up during lockdown when delivering, socially distanced and safely. Items they sell are superb, excellent value. My favourite shop in Cleethorpes.”

Bake Battle and Roll in Doncaster gained much recognition for their inclusive environment “It's an inclusive welcoming business. They adapt to customer needs; nothing is ever to much trouble and they run events that benefit the wider community as well as their customer base.”

It Started with a Stitch in Grimsby – the passion of the business owner in supporting community and fellow makers shined through “Gemma took the leap to open her own shop and fulfil a personal dream and then lockdown came the day after she opened. So, after 2 years she is thriving and she is such a champion for other local businesses and communities. She shines inside and out!”

Louise’s Florist in Hoddesdon was praised for its warm welcome “I love the flowers I will not go anywhere else for them. Louise and the ladies that work for her are lovely and welcome you in the shop with open arms and are very helpful”

Cheeky Pea in Kingston-Upon-Thames was praised for its amazing food, fantastic falafels, atmosphere and team “A small business with a big heart and superb food. Amazing staff, beautiful fresh food and a calm relaxing environment, it’s the best place I have ever been for a falafel lunch.”

The Merchants House Café in Kirkcaldy gained accolades for making customers feel special and supporting other businesses “This wonderful Cafe has brought together amazing cakes and baked products with a well put together menu. They have provided a varied schedule of events and special promotions that are exciting and interesting. They reward regulars and welcome new visitors. They encourage local businesses by regularly posting positive reviews about them on their Facebook page.”

Kanoa Living in Knutsford was praised for its ethical style “Great service, unusual products, eco-friendly packaging. They also visit all their suppliers to ensure products are made properly and staff paid well. They also donate to charities and although fairly new to the town get involved with events.”

Queen B Boutique in Penarth – one of the many nominations read “…for me it’s the friendliness of the staff and their knowledge of what would suit you and what would not, they are honest, kind and just amazing, they work so hard and kept everyone going and updated through the pandemic and went above and beyond, well done”

Green Hill Patchwork and Quilting in Romsey – nominations praised many adaptations the business made through lockdown “They were amazing throughout the pandemic allowing those who found comfort in sewing to still access everything they needed. They are always so friendly & accommodating”

The Art Room in Scarborough gained accolades for their new classes and getting people through hard times but it was their community spirit that shone out most “The owners are so keen to get the community involved. They encouraged people to get Christmas streetlights up to make the area feel festive. Took part and encouraged others to create a Christmas window. They show local artists work and change it on a regular basis to help as many artists as they can. Delia supports local charities with such passion. She wants to help others. She is so positive and encouraging. She’s created workshops for people which are more than art, it’s about friendship, not feeling lonely, supportive and loving.”

Grinder Coffee Co in Sunderland is a well-loved spot “The coffee is the best in town. The cakes and savouries are pretty impressive and the proprietors and staff are the best in town too. You are always guaranteed a friendly welcome a chat and brilliant personal service.”

Kristina’s in Thirsk – Strong ethical principles were a big feature for this business “Warm welcoming owner with fantastic ethical values. Supplying environmentally friendly products to a small community. Always being friendly, helpful and introducing new products and services to our town.”

Chococake in Wimborne was nominated for the ability of its brownies and cakes to change people’s mindsets “Fabulous cakes and coffee and lovely people. If I feel down, I always head to Chococake for a homemade brownie and a latte and it cheers me up instantly. It’s like a little piece of Covent Garden in Dorset.”

Alfred’s Brewery in Winchester acknowledged for supporting customers through Covid “During the lockdowns Alfred's went above and beyond to deliver to their thirsty customers which was a lifeline to many.  A decent drop of ale kept many housebound sane!”
