At the heart of Wayland, lies the ancient market town of Watton located in Breckland, for centuries the centre of the local agricultural economy. Watton has a variety of shops and amenities including a market which is held every Wednesday.
The town has many historic buildings including the Clock Tower which was built in 1679. Most of the buildings in the long High Street date from the 18th and 19th centuries but the town is much older – indeed it was granted its market charter in 1204.
